"My Hair is Thinning! - Can I stop it?"

Read below to find out more!!!!

(Adapted from the Web)

Hair loss afflicts millions of people, and not just men, though men's hair loss is often the more noticeable. However there is good news, by using the right Nioxin treatment further hair loss may able be retarded by thickening up all those tiny little miniaturised hairs to become normal hairs again, giving you a fuller, thicker, healthy head of hair. But a little patience is required as this process can take up to 5 years.

Anagen Phase  This is the growth phase that lasts between two and eight years. During this phase the growth cells rapidly produce the hair shaft. At the same time, the follicle grows down into the deeper levels of the dermis (skin) to get nourishment. Hair grows at a rate of about a ½ inch per month,

Catagen Phase  This phase is a brief two to four week. This is part of a renewal process where the follicle is literally degraded and the hair stops growing but does not fall out.

Telogen Phase  The follicle then goes into the Telogen or resting phase for two to four months, during this time the hair still does not grow but remains attached to the follicle. Approximately 10-15 percent of all hairs are in this phase at any one time.

After the Telogen phase the cycle is complete and the hair goes back into the Anagen phase. It is at this time when the new hair shaft is forming that the old hair is pushed out and lost.

On average 50-100 hairs are lost due to this natural growth process every day. This is normal hair loss and accounts for the hair loss seen every day in the shower and with hair combing. In healthy follicles these hairs will soon be replaced by new hair. So if you see lots more hairs in your styling brush and/or the shower, then its time to be concerned and start Nioxin Treatments immediately.

What actually happens on your scalp - is the Miniaturization of your Hair

Miniaturization of your hair is caused at the hair follicle by an enzyme that occurs naturally in your body known as 5 Alpha Reductase. This enzyme converts  the testosterone into another form of testosterone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT for short.

Ok! So what is Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)

DHT is the hormone that triggers hair loss in "male pattern baldness". Men with "male pattern baldness" will already have increased levels of DHT in their scalp. DHT contributes to the shortening of the growth phase, hairs become brittle, lighter in color, and fall out at a much faster rate than normal.

Over Time your Hairs actually become Thinner -

- However this process may able to be reversed

When hair follicles, that are genetically programmed to be receptive to DHT, are bombarded by DHT over a long enough period of time, the follicle begins to produce less hair, causing the hair shafts to narrow producing progressively finer hairs with each new growth cycle until eventually the hairs become transparent and stop emerging. (see picture above)

Studies now show that inhibiting 5-Alpha-reductase is the key to preventing hair loss and male pattern balding.

By using Nioxin treatments, with active ingredients that block the 5-Alph-reductage chemical reaction that changes testosterone into DHT, is the most effective hair loss help that can be found. Nioxin products work effectively to block DHT and supply your hair with the vital nutrients it needs to grow. Focus your attention on blocking the build-up DHT in your hair follicles.

Also try some "Good Hair Food"

For men, a low-fat diet may help slow down the balding process. Feed the roots of the hairs with a balanced diet, rich in Proteins, Iron and Vitamin B. Foods such as fibres, sprouts, eggs, fish and liver will make your hair roots stronger. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in starch. This may help to slow down the process of hair loss. Fruits and vegetables contain flavonoids, many of which are antioxidants that may provide protection for the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.

Consult your Physician

If you are experiencing hair loss, you should also consult your physician to check for an underlying health problem, or infection.
